Capacity acquired during charge [Wh/kg ]
A team from Penn State University and startup EC Power has developed a novel thermal management solution to actively modulate the internal temperature of cells, called asymmetric thermal modulation. An embedded nickel foil resistive heater between layers of the electrodes preheats the cell to enable high C-rate charging. In addition, ionic transport was improved using a dual salt (LiPF6–LiFSI) electrolyte and higher anode porosity.
