EV Drivers Per Charge Point
Key Trends The global number of public charge points grew by 37% in 2021 (and at a 46% CAGR over 2015–2021). The total number of now exceeds 1.75 million. However, many more charge points are needed. The slow roll out of charging networks is a major roadblock to widespread EV adoption. Lack of chargers is not the only problem. As of 2021, 70% of public charge points were slow chargers. The main barriers to greater fast charger deployment are high hardware/installation/permitting costs, low uptime, and unpredictable utilization. By 2030, the global number of charge points needs to increase to 13–15 million, and the proportion of fast chargers needs to approach 40%.
