Electrolyte design enables high energy-density SiOx/LNMO cell Researchers from the University of Tokyo and SKKU Korea demonstrated stable cycling of a SiOx/LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 battery (Fig. a) to an upper cut-off voltage of 4.9 V and reported a very high capacity for the silicon oxide (Fig. b). This was achieved with the selection of the LiN(SO2F)2 (LiFSI) salt, which forms a robust SEI, and methyl (2,2,2-trifluoroethyl) carbonate FEMC electrolyte, which has a high oxidation potential.
Long-term cycling of a SiOx/LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 battery with a 4.9 V cut-off was enabled by a 3.4 M LiFSI/FEMC electrolyte.
