Battery Energy Storage Systems BESS New & Cumulative Deployment History Midway into what BNEF called the “Decade of Energy Storage,ˮ BESS deployments continue to soar, with a CAGR of 79% by power. In 2025, new BESS installations totalled 104 GW / 257 GWh, crossing the 100 GW mark for the first time, and bringing global cumulative BESS capacity to 267 GW / 610 GWh

New BESS capacity added was approximately 10% of all global new power generation capacity brought online in 2025

Average duration of new BESS projects has continued to rise, moving to approximately 2.5 hours, up 37% since 2020

Costs have continued to plummet, hitting new lows even more quickly than anticipated

Energy storage attractive policies continue to be the biggest driver for where and how fast BESS projects are deployed
