Next-Gen Power Architecture in AI Data Centers and Where Batteries Are Embedded Batteries are increasingly embedded across every layer of the modern data-center power architecture, from facility-level energy storage systems connected to the grid to rack-level battery backup units that sit inches from AI servers. As power densities rise and uptime requirements tighten, data centers are shifting from centralized, AC-based backup architectures toward high-voltage DC systems with distributed batteries that provide faster response, higher efficiency, and greater resilience. This evolution is turning batteries into a core enabling technology for both power delivery and reliability in next-generation AI infrastructure.
