Ex.China Anode Supply Is Growing, but Led by Incumbent Producers Startups struggling to qualify material Global production capacity for graphite anode active material has been overwhelmingly focused on China. Along with successive export controls on materials, equipment and know-how, graphite is an especially critical stage of the value chain. Ex. China sources, though, are being increasingly sought after. Chinese-origin manufacturers are establishing production in jurisdictions where low energy costs and streamlined permitting facilitate the emissions-intensive production of synthetic graphite. BTR has been ramping up its Indonesian operation and exporting mainly to US customers. Projects in Morocco are also in development. However, startup producers in Europe and North America have been struggling to qualify their material to the specifications that their auto- and battery-maker customers demand, and the long lead time that this involves. This has already led to some offtake agreements being cancelled or on the verge of being cancelled. Source: Content & analysis provided by CRU Group Distinguished Partner), GTT.
