2025 China Battery Investment Landscape: Larger Aggregate Scale and Higher Entry Barriers Battery industry investments in China span a broad range of sub-verticals, including battery chemistries, production equipment, cell manufacturing facilities, energy storage supporting infrastructure, and more. Throughout 2025, the investment landscape has shifted toward structure optimization and high-end concentration, with the following key trends emerging:

Structure-optimized fundraising dynamics According to statistics from the GGII Gaogong Industry Research Institute), from January to August 2025, there were 183 newly signed and commenced capacity expansion projects in Chinaʼs lithium battery industry chain, with a planned total investment of CNY 400 billion. The lithium battery industry chain is accelerating its transition toward high-quality development amid structural adjustments, exhibiting the prominent characteristics of "accelerated capacity expansion in high-end segments and phase-out of low-end production capacity".

In terms of specific segments, there were 54 capacity expansion projects for lithium batteries and 23 for solid-state batteries, accounting for 30% and 13% of the total planned capacity expansion projects respectively. Among them, for relatively mature products such as lithium batteries and anode materials, the proportion of commenced projects was higher than that of newly signed projects, indicating that enterprises are focusing more on accelerating capacity construction. For emerging projects such as solid-state batteries and sodium-ion batteries, the proportion of newly signed projects was higher, reflecting enterprisesʼ strategies of seizing strategic positions and pre-empting market opportunities to reserve capacity for the incremental market in the later stage.
